We are deeply shocked by the sudden demise of Comrade Meena Rai on the morning of November 21, 2023. She passed away of brain haemorrhage at a hospital in Allahabad where she was admitted around midnight. She was perfectly healthy till the previous evening.
Comrade Meena Rai was the managing editor of Samkaleen Janmat and Vice President of Jan Sanskriti Manch, Uttar Pradesh. She retired a couple of years ago from her teaching job.
She was a committed social, political and cultural activist throughout her life and dedicated her life towards furthering progressive and democratic ideas and values. Her vibrant presence will be missed in cultural events and political programmes where her book stall used to be a quintessential feature.
Her widely read and appreciated memoirs 'Samar na jite koi' being published serially at the Janmat portal sadly remained incomplete.
