THE indefinite dharna by the All India Kisan Mahasabha at Mahgaon in Chandauli district of UP continued on its 203rd day on November 18 with a rally organized on the dharna venue. The rally reverberated with the slogans, ‘Modi-Yogi, Answer for the forcible acquisition of farmers’ lands!’, ‘Farmers must be paid compensation at market value’, ‘Stop forcible construction being done on farmers’ lands.
Addressing the farmers at the dharna spot, CPI(ML) District Secretary Shashikant Kushwaha said that the company has brought machines to forcibly start construction work on the farmers’ lands, but the rightful demands of the farmers are not being heard. On 14 November last, a 5-point memorandum of demands was submitted to the Upper District Magistrate (Finance and Revenue) but no action has been taken till today.
The Modi-Yogi governments which claim to be pro-farmer have proved to be the bane of farmers and have thrown them into the worst possible distress. He said that affected peasants of this area will also participate in march to Parliament on 29-30 November to strengthen the voice of farmers in the country.
