Victorious Protest Against Sand Mafia in Bhojpur

Some eighty years ago, Ambedkar had warned us 'if Hindu Raj becomes a fact, it will, no doubt, be the greatest calamity for this country' and he could not have been more prophetic.

AFTER the conspiracy to hush up the death of 18-year-old tractor driver Mantosh Yadav by BJP leader Rinku Singh and the sand mafia, the CPI(ML) led a protest on 12 June 2019 on the Chandi-Sahar main road near Repura village. Hundreds of people joined the protest and blocked the road for 14 hours. After a round of failed talks with the BDO and 4 Thana in-charges, the SDO Arun Kumar and DSP Pankaj Kumar came to the dharna spot and talks with ML leaders were held for 45 minutes after which they conceded the following demands:

  • Arrest of BJP leader Rinku Singh who conspired in the disappearance of Mantosh Yadav’s dead body.
  • Action against sand mafia responsible for illegal use of sand banks, illegal running of JCB Poclain machines and stocking of sand.
  • Recommendation to the State government that 75% of revenue earned from sand banks will be spent on development of Bhojpur.
  • Guarantee of payment of Rs 1 lakh by the Labour Department to the dependents of the deceased within one month, one Indira Awas house, and Rs 5 lakh to be procured as fine from the Brandson Company and given to the family of the deceased.
  • Sandesh BDO handed over Rs 20,000 in cash to Baijnath Yadav, father of the deceased, who is a sharecropper.

The deceased belonged to Badri Tola village, Block Agiaon, and the incident took place at the Repura Sand Bank, Sandesh, Bhojpur.
